Is the PC Dead for Gamers?
http://www.tomshardware.com/column/20050924/index.html
Yes? No? Read it and see what this guy says. Short read for the phonetically challenged.
Interesting though.

Who was stupid enough to ask that in the first place? DOOM 3 and Half-Life 2 just came out and broke new boundries, with a new Quake and a bunch of great MMOs on the way. As for the "next gen" consoles? They're nothing compaired to a PC's depth and online support.

the reason why pc gaming will never die out is because as of now they are expandable and upgradeable. Plus you dont have to have 3 counsoles to play your favorite games, most of them end up coming out on PC sonner or later

I believe everyone here would agree with that!
PC gaming will NEVER die because it has great
-RTSs (console ones stink)
-FPSs (PCs have better accuracy)
-RPGs (point, click, repeat)
-Emulators and roms.
I still play with consoles though.

PC gaming is superb to consoles in so many ways. PCs can be upgraded relatively easily to support ever more demanding games. Multiplayer communication is easier, and LAN connections have become so easy to set up. With the next gen of consoles, I think we will see consoles becoming more PC-like in their capabilities, not the other way around.

Yep and if you read the article *looks disparagingly at the faces* these are exactly the conclusions that he came up with. It's a cyclical event: PC games get noticed and are well received. Next generation of consoles come out. Death of PC gaming predicted. Prediction fails.*rinse & repeat*

I do my gaming almost exclusively on consoles these days... mostly for monetary reasons. I simply can't afford to buy new CPU's/motherboards/GPU's every year just to keep playing the best games.
On the other hand, I pop a game disc into my Xbox and it plays... no questions asked, no hardware compatibility issues, no insufficient processing power... it just works. That alone makes consoles more than worth their while to me, more so than PCs.
I will say one thing about PC gaming... maybe not with this console cycle, but sometime soon, they may go the way of the arcade. Consoles are catching up in computing power and the convergence of entertainment technology is slowly turning consoles into multimedia entertainment devices instead of just playing games. Part of the reason arcades died was that gamers could get the some stuff at home. If consoles continue to catch up power-wise, and become central to your living room in a full entertainment sense, PC gaming could be in trouble.

I dunno, I like PC for the high resolution, but what about when HDTV is the norm? the consoles need upgrading every what 4-5 years? so 400.00 every 4-5 years as opposed to the video cards, motherboards, RAM, Processors. hmmmm...I dont know, I do know RPG, RTS, and FPS play far better on PC. for Action games like Mario or Zelda give me Consoles!

Umm... no. Mario and Zelda use very little of the common RPG conventions. Mario doesn't level up, Link doesn't use an intricate battle system. Outside of things like "Paper Mario" or "LoZ: Four Swords" (which are both departures from the basics of the series) both of these series are typical Action/Adventure titles, not RPG's.

never !
i have ps2 and psp , but i would never trade a pc for any console
ps3 sounds like a monster machine , but by that time , pcs will be ... ohh well you know ... GODZILAS
what is a problem for many , is the best for some
the huge complexity
if you put a mouse , keybourd and harddrive on a console ... it becomes a pc ( imo )
people put ps2 games on pc , and run linux on xbox .. so i guess the line will be thiner in the future , but what we call a pc , workstation , space ship ... will always be more then a console ...

PC games will always thrive for a couple of simple reasons:
1. People can always talk themselves into getting the best gaming PC claiming it should enhance their classroom/home/office productivity... You can't use that argument to alleviate any guilt with an XBox 360.
2. In building a gaming PC you feel like your building a hotrod. For an XBox you just hop over to the local "Toys R Us" and stand in line with a bunch of kids buying the same item (somehow the cashier just knows you ain't getting it for your kid...)
3. PC games can be played privately at work over the office LAN when the boss isn't around. Try doing THAT with an XBox 360.

Consoles have their place and PCs have their place. I like playing PS2 games with RL firends but my PC is single player only :P (for me only I mean)
